Rooting Xiaomi 4X 2017-10-11

You have to do 3 things:

1- Unlock bootloader
2- Install twrp
3- Install superSU

1 and 3 are clearly explained in many places (links below), so I will focus on 2 which is where I had some issues.

Issues:

After installing TWRP and rebooting I power phone off.

Then try to:
a: power up with Vol- & Power : This takes me too bootloader, not Recovery mode
b: power up with Vol+ & Power: This takes me to a recovery mode in Chinese and is not TWRP

HereĀ
I readĀ
"Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install."

So that may be happening here.

After some searches, I find the combination which is:

Vol+ & Vol- & Power. When the MI logo appears, release the Power button but keep the other 2.

I try that just after installing again TWRP (3.1.1) and yes, it appears, but asking me for a decryption password ("failed to decrypt data").

After some searching, people mention other versions of TWRP, so I install a previous version (3.1.0) that I installed but thought it was bad because of the Chinese menu.

Again, install, boot with key combo and yes. Normal TWRP menu, no password requested, and now I proceed to install the rooting zip file.
