About personalised calendars.

I've spent a few hours trying to make my own weekly calendar using all sort
of tools and programs, but the final result is not as good as I expected.

Anyway, to don't forget what I have learned, here is the summary:

Programs:
# remind
# rem2ps
# gozer
# remind
# convert
# makediary
# pcal
# cal

All these programs make much more things that what I'll say, but I am going to
comment only the results for what I was looking for, the weekly calendar
agenda. Specifically I want something similar to the agenda that I got when I
was living in Debrecen (Hungary).

With remind you can print out weeks or months. Used with rem2ps the output is
nicer and in Postscrip.

With gozer and convert you can convert text to pictures.

With pcal you can produce very nice monthly and year calendars.

With makediary you can print different kind of templates with the dates of the
year you want.

The closer I got using just commands is the output to this command:

remind -c+1 -m -w,12 /dev/null 1 jun 2007 | enscript -B -f Courier@12 -o - |
convert - -trim juntotrim.png

But that is not very good.

Another Dvorak fan.

There three guys explain a new kind of keyboard. Well, it's not new, just
better.

And now, after come back from Portugal, with time enough to study and learn
whatever I want, finally I did the course.

In Linux I used the "dvorak7min" which is as useful as simple.
And after 29 lesson, 15 days, and around 7 hours typing, I can type Dvorak.

I still have to improve a bit more the speed and then switch to Dvorak by
default.

I am not the only one!!!

Since some years ago, when my life becomes busy, I like to have some folded
papers on my pocket with notes, agenda, calendar, appointments, etc...

Everything a bit messed but every time trying to make it better... And now,
while searching for a solution to the weekly agenda that I can't find in my
city, I found this web where with a program on flash you can configure your
paper-agenda. It comes with explanations about the folding and a lot of
templates... Wonderful I must say!!

There are more people like me that carry papers on the pocket instead of a
heavy PDA. Although I call it PDA too (Papel De Apuntar) :O)

I never though that I would be the only one, but I never though that there were so many people researching about such a simple but useful thing. Surprised.

I noticed that the flash program send your configured paper directly to the printer, so you can't choose how or where you want to print it. And because I haven't a printer, I searched for a solution.

Since the beginning, I can print things to pdf files, but that options doesn't exist out of KDE applications because it's not like a real printer. But the package cups-pdf create a pdf printer that seems like a real one for all the applications and computers connected to the CUPS server. After install and configure it, now I can print the output to pdf files and manipulate as much as I want :o9 That's one of the benefits of Linux, you have no limits, no restrictions.

The first configuration was not successful. But searching a bit and joining the results, finally it works.

Basically:

- Add a printer / Virtual PDF / Model: Postscript

- Check CUPS server on http://localhost:631 (start the printer)

- Configure /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf I modified some values about the file names.

Aventura en Salamanca.

Salir de Guimaraes no era mision facil. El plan era ir en tren de Guimaraes a
Porto y seguidamente en autobus de Porto a Salamanca. Pero cuando llegue a
Salamanca el ultimo autobus hacia Santander ya habia salido por lo que tenia
que esperar hasta el dia siguiente. Aqui comenzo mi aventura.

Deje las maletas en consigna y me encamine al centro de la ciudad buscando la
oficina de Turismo. Con un mapa y una pequeña lista de
museos/exposiciones/monumentos me dedique a visitar Salamanca hasta que
cerraron el ultimo lugar.

Despues compre algo de comida y algunas cervezas y me fui a la casa de mi
amigo mexicano Jacobo donde supuestamente pasaria la noche. Digo
supuestamente porque esa era la noche de la fiesta Mexicana en un bar que
habia justo en frente de su casa. Para alli nos dirigimos a las 00:30h, hora
de comienzo de la fiesta.

Alli me lo pase genial conociendo Argentinos, Mexicanos, Brasileños,
Franceses, Alemanes, Hondureños... y sobre todo bailando con las gringas.
Siempre hay un ambiente genial en las fiestas latinas, es inigualable.

Con mucho cansancio y algun tequila de mas me fui a dormir unas cuatro horas y
media, ya que a las 10h abrian los primeros museos.

Por la mañana vi casi todo lo que me quedaba de Salamanca hasta las 14h que
cerraban todo. Fue entonces cuando me dirigi hacia el comedor de la
universidad para comer. Seguidamente fui a la estacion, cogi mis maletas de
la consigna y me subi al autobus a las 16:30h. Unas cuantas horas mas tarde
ya estaba en Santander.

En un principio intente salir de Guimaraes en el coche de algun amigo que
fuese en la misma direccion para no tener que pasar una noche en Salamanca,
pero no lo consegui.

Pero esta vez, como muchas otras veces, el infortunio se puede transformar en
oportunidad si lo deseas.

Al final me alegre mucho de no haber conseguido volver de la forma mas rapida
y comoda, ya que asi tuve la oportunidad de conocer Salamanca y de disfrutar
de una gran fiesta bailando con mucha gente nueva. En total estuve 23 horas
en Salamanca.

Aqui dejo una 'pequeña' lista de los sitios que visite:
- Casa Lis. Museo de art nouveau y art deco.
- Museo de arte oriental.
- "Articulos para fascinar" en la Filmoteca de Castilla y Leon.
- "Los sonidos del ayer" en el Museo de la radio.
- "La medida del tiempo". Coleccion de relojes antiguos.
- Casa de las conchas.
- Catedrales.
- Huerto de Calixto y Melibea (donde descubri que Salamanca y Coimbra son
ciudades hermanadas).
- Universidad de Salamanca.
- "Cielo de Salamanca". Exposicion de un fresco.
- Cueva de Salamanca.
- Palacio de la Salina.
- Casa de las muertes.
- Plaza Mayor.
- Y otras muchas cosas que solo vi por fuera...

Por cierto, Salamanca me recordo un monton a Lovaina (Leuven) en Belgica.
Mismo ambiente y ciudad llena de colegios y monumentos.

Quiero dar las gracias desde aqui a mi amigo Jacobo Tafoya que muy amablemente
me hospedo aquella noche y me invito a la fiesta que el mismo organizo junto
con otros amigos.
